EXPERIENCE. LEADERSHIP. INTEGRITY.
Crime is not a political phenomenon. Victims are not Republicans or Democrats, conservatives or liberals. Victims are victims. The administration of a District Attorney’s Office and the pursuit of justice should not be guided by political considerations. If that happens even once, that is one time too many. It will not happen if I am elected as your District Attorney.
I'm ETHAN FELDMAN, candidate for District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District. I am a proven leader with over 38 years of experience in the criminal justice system:
- Former Chief Deputy District Attorney in the 18th Judicial District
- 20 years as a County Court Judge in the 18th Judicial District, including two terms as Presiding Judge
- 12 years as a trial lawyer in private practice while also serving over 11 years as a part-time, municipal night court judge
- Leadership positions including terms as:
- President of the Colorado Trial Judges Council
- President of the Colorado County Judges Association
- President of the Arapahoe County Bar Association
- Chair of the Executive Council of the Criminal Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association
- Board of Governors, Colorado Bar Association
- Frequent speaker and presenter on a variety of legal issues, with an emphasis on Victim Rights issues
- Author of Victim Rights articles in Colorado Lawyer Magazine and Newsletter of the Colorado Division of Criminal Justice
- Recipient of awards for exemplary achievement as a judge:
- 2002 Award from 18th Judicial District Attorney for dedication and commitment to victims of domestic violence
- 2009 Anthony Greco Award for outstanding achievement as a County Judge presented by Colorado County Judges Association
MY MISSION
"Fairness is not weakness"
These simple but eloquent words were spoken by Justice Robert Jackson as he gave the prosecution's opening statement at the Nuremberg Trials of Nazi leaders after the end of World War II. Throughout my career in our Criminal Justice system, I have felt that this was how the system should operate. If a person is accused of a crime, he or she can and should be treated fairly; if it is proven beyond a reasonable doubt that he or she committed the crime, he or she should be held accountable.
In order for the system to work, everyone involved must do his or her job well. If I have the great privilege and honor of being elected District Attorney for the 18th Judicial District, I promise that I will:
- Restore leadership that will be accountable.
- Facilitate better hiring, training, and retention of prosecutors.
- Promote an atmosphere that respects the many fine attorneys already on the staff of the District Attorney’s Office and allow prosecutors to do their jobs with confidence, diligence, and the good judgment to exercise appropriate discretion in the pursuit of justice.
- Foster a good and respectful relationship with the courts, law enforcement, and victims.
- Create an environment in which defense attorneys understand that the District Attorney’s Office will be knowledgeable, prepared, and resolute, but also fair and operating with the highest ethical standards.
By doing so, the District Attorney’s Office will meet its obligations and responsibilities to:
- Promote community safety.
- Diligently, ethically, and efficiently prosecute offenders.
- Protect and respect victims.
- Reduce the number of repeat offenders.
- Promote respect for the law.
- Be a careful guardian of the budgeted public funds entrusted to the District Attorney’s Office.
